Job summary

Wadhwani Foundation seeks an experienced General Counsel to serve as inaugural Vice President & General Counsel, advising the Chairman, CEO, and Boards on governance, compliance, and risk across WOF and WCF. The role leads legal strategy, external counsel, and global partnerships while protecting fiduciary interests and enabling mission-driven programs.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of legal experience with senior in-house leadership in nonprofit or corporate settings.
• JD from an accredited law school and membership in a state or international bar.
• Experience advising global foundations and cross-border grant‑making.
• Deep expertise in nonprofit/foundation law, governance, and enterprise risk.
• Experience managing external counsel across jurisdictions; India exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal legal advisor to the Chairman, CEO, and Governing Boards across governance, compliance, and risk.
• Develop and implement legal strategy, policies, and delegated authorities for WOF and WCF.
• Oversee IP, technology, data privacy, regulatory matters, and enterprise risk management.
• Lead external counsel management and cross-border legal matters globally.
• Provide governance support for grant-making and donor stewardship activities.
