Job summary

ABB is seeking a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Commissioning Engineer to lead the commissioning of GIS and RMU systems remotely within the US. You will develop work plans, perform testing and energization, and ensure customer acceptance while interfacing with utilities and EPCs.

The role requires 10+ years in commissioning/field engineering, ABB GIS/RMU experience, generator paralleling knowledge, and strong technical writing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of commissioning and field engineering experience.
• Experience with ABB GIS (ZX Portfolio) and RMU (SafeRing / SafePlus).
• Knowledge of generator paralleling systems and critical power infrastructure.
• Proficient technical writing skills for commissioning documentation.
• Ability to travel 40-50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning of ABB GIS and RMU systems in accordance with ABB standards, customer specifications, and IEEE/IEC/ANSI requirements.
• Create commissioning work plans, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and MOPs.
• Support execution and manage commissioning activities through energization and customer acceptance.
• Support FAT and IFAT.
• Interface with customers, EPCs, utilities, and ABB teams.
• Identify commissioning risks and lead mitigation actions.
• Support contract managers with technical input related to scope and claims.
• Perform site visits to support commissioning teams.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
