Job summary

Hired is hiring a Game Engine Developer to build and improve the runtime, rendering, and tooling that games are built on. The role combines deep systems programming with games-specific craft — making the engine fast, stable, and a joy to build with.

Fully remote with flexible hours. Competitive compensation up to $180k USD plus benefits; indicative range $110k–$180k. Requires 4 years of production engine or systems-level work, strong C and graphics API skills, and experience with Unreal or Unity.

Qualifications

  • 4 years building production game engine or systems-level software
  • Strong proficiency in C and modern graphics APIs (Vulkan, DirectX, Metal)
  • Experience with rendering, physics, animation, audio, networking
  • Familiarity with profiling, performance analysis, and optimisation
  • Working knowledge of one or more major engines (Unreal, Unity, custom)
  • Strong system design fundamentals

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain core engine systems including rendering, physics, animation, and tooling
  • Optimise runtime performance across CPU, GPU, and memory
  • Develop and improve editor tooling and content pipelines
  • Diagnose and resolve complex bugs across the engine and games using it
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to architectural decisions
  • Partner with game teams on engine features and workflow improvements
