Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is seeking a Technical Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and GAAP compliance across contracts and initiatives. The role partners with internal teams and regulators to evaluate accounting implications and document technical positions.

You will contribute to policy development, assist with audits, and help implement new accounting standards while mentoring junior staff in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
• Master’s degree in Accounting OR CPA designation OR minimum 5 years’ experience leading technical accounting research and policy development required.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze accounting guidance related to new transactions, contracts, and regulatory developments.
• Prepare accounting position papers and technical memoranda documenting conclusions.
• Interpret GAAP, SAP, NAIC guidance, and other regulatory accounting requirements.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes with strong internal controls and policy compliance.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and control documentation; support implementation of new standards.
