Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is seeking a Technical Accountant to apply GAAP and SAP guidance to complex transactions and regulatory requirements. You will prepare position papers, support audits, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The role involves researching accounting issues, developing policies, and mentoring staff in a dynamic, hybrid work environment in Kansas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
• Master’s degree or CPA designation OR 5+ years in technical accounting research and policy development required.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in public accounting or technical accounting, regulatory accounting, or financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze GAAP/SAP guidance for new transactions, contracts and initiatives.
• Prepare accounting position papers and technical memoranda with rationale.
• Interpret GAAP, SAP, and NAIC guidance for reporting requirements.
• Support month-, quarter-, and year-end close with internal controls and policies.
• Evaluate accounting implications of revenue recognition, leases, investments, reserves, contingencies and impairments.
• Develop and communicate accounting policies and control documentation.
• Support audits and regulatory reviews with schedules and responses.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external auditors/regulators on accounting matters.
• Monitor regulatory developments and communicate impacts to management.
• Participate in special projects and finance transformations.
