Job summary

North Carolina Forest Service is seeking a Forestry Supervisor I (NS) to lead district forest programs from Hyde County, NC. The role involves coordinating fire protection, GIS, water quality and cost-share initiatives, while supervising staff and managing budgets.

This position supports telework where possible, with typical hours 8–5, and occasional on-call duties during high fire danger. Requires SAF forestry degree and four years of professional forestry experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry or equivalent
• Experience training others in forestry topics
• Knowledge of forest management and silviculture practices
• Familiarity with wildland fire suppression strategies or prescribed burning
• Understanding environmental rules and regulations
• Strong leadership and written/oral communication skills

Responsibilities

• Manage and ensure compliance with Forest Management, Water Quality, Ranger Training, GIS and cost-share programs.
• Coordinate District’s Remote Access Weather Stations and National Fire Danger Rating programs.
• Lead Community Wildfire Protection Planning and fuel mitigation projects.
• Respond to wildland fires and other all-risk incidents within the district.
• Handle personnel hiring, performance management, purchasing, and budgeting for the District Forestation program.
• Oversee training and development of staff and liaise with partners and stakeholders.
