Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service in Nash County is seeking a Forestry Technician I (S) to assist the County Ranger with forest protection, wildfire response, and urban forestry education. This full-time position typically runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday through Friday, with additional hours during emergencies and training. The role may require overnight travel; residency considerations apply, and the State provides a uniform and a dedicated vehicle for daily duties.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in forest management or related field, or high school/GED with two years of forestry experience.
• Valid NC driver's license within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to work 8–5, with extended hours during emergencies and potential overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist with servicing landowner requests for forestry assistance.
• Support programs to promote trees and tree care in urban settings.
• Promote forestry education through interaction with forestry partners, schools, and groups.
• Assist with wildfire suppression planning and emergency response.
