Job summary

Haag, a Salas O'Brien Company, is seeking an experienced Forensic Structural Engineer III to join our Detroit, MI-based remote team. The role focuses on investigating structural damage across storms, disasters, and design defects, delivering defensible conclusions and high-quality reports.

You will work from a home office, collaborating with internal experts, travel locally or nationally as needed, and contribute to client service excellence while advancing your professional credentials.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of forensic engineering experience
• P.E. license in Michigan or eligible by reciprocity
• Ability to work independently and with a cross-functional team
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Excellent customer service orientation
• Proficiency with standard computer tools and field equipment
• Expert Witness experience preferred
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or restrictions

Responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections to determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural damage; evaluate failure modes and contributing factors.
• Develop clear, well-supported conclusions and produce high-quality technical reports.
• Provide timely, professional updates to clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders; manage expectations.
• Work independently from a home office while leveraging internal experts and resources; build long-term relationships.
• Drive issues to resolution with stakeholders; ensure deliverables meet standards.
• Contribute ideas to strengthen processes, tools, and customer outcomes.
