Job summary

Keystone Experts & Engineers is seeking licensed engineers to conduct forensic investigations remotely on a part-time, 1099 contract basis. The ideal candidate will assess causes and origins of failures across buildings, electrical, and mechanical systems, including fire and weather-related damage, with strong documentation practices.

Applicants must hold an active PE license and a degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering.

Qualifications

• Active Professional Engineering license is required.
• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or a similar field.
• Strong knowledge of building materials, codes, construction methods, and failure modes.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
• Availability to perform site inspections within 5–7 days.
• Proficiency with multiple software platforms, tools/equipment, and investigative techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering failure analysis to determine cause and origin of damage.
• Conduct site evaluations, field analysis, and assessments of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Provide evaluations for failures due to hail/wind, lightning, improper maintenance or installation, or equipment defects.
• Safely access roofs, attics, and crawl spaces to document areas of interest.
• Identify witnesses and key parties involved; interview as needed.
• Prepare findings and recommendations for resolution of insurance claims or litigation.
