Job summary

Keystone Experts Engineers is seeking a licensed Mechanical/Electrical Engineer for forensics investigations in a fully remote, part-time, 1099 role. You will determine causes of failures, perform site evaluations, and document findings for insurance or litigation with emphasis on weather-related damage to buildings and equipment.

The ideal candidate holds an active PE license, a mechanical or electrical engineering degree, and can meet tight deadlines for field inspections within 5–7 days.

Qualifications

  • Active Professional Engineering license required.
  • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
  • Well‑versed in building materials, codes, construction methods & common modes of failure.
  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and perform site inspections within 5–7 days.

Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering failure analysis; determining cause of damage, fire, electrocutions and equipment failures.
  • Capable of site evaluations, field analysis, and assessments of mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing systems.
  • Provide evaluations for failures due to hail/wind damage, lightning, improper maintenance or installation, or product defects.
  • Safely access roofs, attics & crawl spaces to photo-document areas of interest.
  • Identify and interview witnesses and/or other key parties involved.
  • Prepare & submit findings and recommendations for insurance claims or litigation.
