Job summary

Rimkus, a worldwide leader in engineering and forensic consulting, is seeking a Fire Investigator to join our Detroit, MI team. You will conduct on-site forensic fire analysis, determine origin and cause, secure scenes, document findings, and provide testimony.

Travel up to 50% locally; overtime may apply. Requires 5+ years of fire investigation experience and relevant certifications. Candidates should have the ability to prepare detailed reports and support litigation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of related work experience in fire investigation or a related field.
• AAS in Fire Science, Fire Investigation, Forensic Science or related field.
• IAAI-CFI certification preferred; ability to obtain IAAI-CFI within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Determines the origin and cause of fires and explosions involving structures, equipment, vehicles, and other losses.
• Secures fire/explosion scenes to prevent evidence removal or damage.
• Conducts on-site forensic fire analysis, witnesses interviews, evidence collection, report preparation, and may testify in deposition or trial.
• Identifies, collects and labels evidence while maintaining chain of custody.
• Provides technical support to clients for subrogation and litigation purposes.
• Performs code compliance research including electrical, gas, fire, building and installation codes.
• Maintains ongoing education and presents seminars on fire-related topics.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
