Job summary

Aoka is seeking an experienced fire protection professional for remote, part-time, on-demand work in Texas. You will review fire and life safety plans to ensure code compliance and safety for occupants and first responders, coordinating with designers, engineers, and municipal staff.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of experience in fire plan review and holds an ICC or TCFP Fire Plans Examiner certification, with the ability to work flexibly on project-based assignments.

Qualifications

• Active ICC or TCFP Fire Plans Examiner certification required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in fire plan review.
• Availability to work part-time on an as-needed basis remotely (no guaranteed minimum hours).

Responsibilities

• Review architectural and fire protection plans for compliance with IFC, IBC, NFPA standards, and local amendments.
• Evaluate sprinkler, standpipe, and pump submittals including hydraulic calculations (NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20).
• Review fire alarm and detection system plans (NFPA 72) including device layout and battery calculations.
• Verify means of egress, occupant load, exit capacity, travel distance, and exit signage.
• Assess fire-resistance-rated construction, fire barriers, opening protectives, and penetration firestopping.
• Review fire apparatus access, hydrant placement, fire flow, and hazardous materials considerations.
• Prepare clear review comments and corrections through VertexPlans.
• Coordinate with designers, contractors, developers, and municipal staff to resolve comments.
• Utilize VertexPlans for project tracking and documentation.
• Meet turnaround times with high accuracy and quality.
