Job summary

Sedgwick Claims Management Services Ltd. seeks an experienced Fire Investigator (part-time) based in Long Island or Queens to support complex origin-and-cause investigations.

The role is remote, with collaboration across a multidisciplinary team to deliver unbiased, defensible findings for clients. Qualified candidates will hold CFEI/IAAI-CFI credentials (CFEI strongly preferred, IAAI-CFI at minimum) and have 3+ years of investigation experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification expected.
• IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) certification preferred.
• Must obtain IAAI-CFI within 6 months of qualifying to take the test.

Responsibilities

• Accepts assignments for investigation of losses or claims and pursues investigation per assignment needs.
• Determines origin and cause of loss and identifies possible third-party responsibility for subrogation.
• Maintains reporting commitments to clients following EFI procedures.
• Promotes EFI services within the insurance industry and assigned territory.
• Interviews witnesses and collects information to support objective conclusions.
• Develops knowledge to inspect public records (deeds, mortgages, liens, etc.).
• Ensures investigations comply with privacy and public record laws.
