Job summary

Bernalillo County is seeking a Financial Accountant to join the Accounting Department. This role handles general ledger, enterprise funds, grants management, financial analysis, and approval of financial transactions. You will prepare reports, meet objectives, and support department goals.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with at least two years of accounting/finance experience. The county offers flexible work options and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Two (2) years of work experience in accounting or finance.
• Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex accounting duties in general ledger, grants, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and treasury.
• Maintain fiscal records, reconciling expenditures and closing grants.
• Supervise staff, participate in hiring, training, evaluations, and corrective actions.
• Conduct training on grants management, asset capitalization, and project closeouts.
• Prepare annual financial statements for ACFR with journal entries and notes.
• Review budgets and financial performance; perform reconciliations and journal entries.
• Monitor project budgets; coordinate with project managers and funding allocations.
• Prepare, review, and monitor grant applications and reimbursements.
• Respond to auditor requests and provide documentation for variances.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and program guidelines.
