Job summary

Groundworks New Mexico is seeking an Accountant to join a collaborative team of 7–9 finance professionals in a local government setting. You will back up the accounting staff and ensure compliance with grant requirements, with hands-on training from the Controller and Senior Accountant.

The role covers grant accounting, AR coordination for grantor billings, journal entry preparation, and timely financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accountancy, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of entry-level accounting experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Working knowledge of Workday.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join a collaborative team of 7–9 finance professionals within a local government setting. This role serves as a primary backup to the accounting staff while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local grant requirements.
Hands-on training will be provided by the Controller and Senior Accountant to help you get up to speed quickly.

Additional Areas of Responsibility:

Major Duties

• Grant Accounting & Compliance: Review financial status reports from grant administrators, maintain grant files, monitor project statuses, and assist with meeting grantor requirements.
• AR & Financial Reporting: Coordinate with Accounts Receivable for grantor billings, prepare journal entries, and ensure accurate, timely preparation and submission of all required fiscal reports.
• Reconciliation: Reconcile revenues and expenditures using fund accounting principles.

What Are We Looking For?

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accountancy, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of entry-level accounting experience.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of Workday, spreadsheets, and Excel pivot tables.
• Preferred Experience:
  • Background in grant accounting or fund accounting.
