Job summary

Music Will, the nation’s leading nonprofit music education program in U.S. public schools, seeks a Controller to lead accounting operations. Reporting to the CFOO, you will own monthly close, internal controls, cash-flow reporting, budgeting, and the annual audit.

You’ll partner with department leaders and supervise the AP/AR team, translating numbers into actionable insights while strengthening processes. You will ensure GAAP compliance and nonprofit standards, leverage Sage Intacct, and guide

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of progressive accounting and nonprofit experience.
• At least 3 years of management/leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and not-for-profit accounting.
• Ownership of monthly close, reconciliations, financial statements, and GL integrity.
• Experience with annual external audits and audit schedules.
• Budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow modeling, and budget-to-actual analysis.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies.
• Strong written and verbal communication for non-finance audiences.
• Proficiency with Excel/Sheets and MS Office tools.
• Experience with Sage Intacct.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly close with recording, reconciliation and reporting.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and nonprofit accounting standards.
• Maintain general ledger integrity and Sage Intacct processes.
• Develop cash-flow reporting and a rolling 13-week forecast.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecast updates with departments.
• Coordinate with departments on budget-to-actual analyses.
• Prepare for external audit and Form 990.
