Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks a Staff Scientist, Field Applications, to enable customers in biologics purification and processing. You will train, optimize, troubleshoot, and demonstrate downstream methods across platforms while building strong customer and partner relationships.

The role combines scientific depth with customer engagement, supporting field fieldwork across California and beyond, with substantial travel and collaboration with R&D teams to drive adoption of our solutions from lab

Qualifications

• Advanced degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of experience with relevant chromatography / bioprocessing techniques
• Preferred Fields of Study: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Engineering, or related scientific field
• Technical knowledge in one or more core application areas (protein purification, chromatography, process development, or related fields)
• Successful experience in customer-facing technical support and training
• Strong communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences
• Problem-solving abilities and analytical troubleshooting expertise
• Project management and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
• Presentation and technical writing capabilities
• Fluency in English required; additional languages beneficial
• Ability to travel up to ~50% within assigned territory
• Valid driver's license and passport for international travel where required
• Experience with downstream method development and optimization
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality systems (GMP, GLP) preferred

Responsibilities

• Deliver technical training to customers and internal teams, and optimize applications across platforms
• Troubleshoot complex issues and demonstrate Thermo Fisher technologies through presentations
• Build relationships with customers, sales teams, and internal partners to enable adoption from lab to manufacturing scale
• Support colleagues and lead strategic projects impacting product development with customer feedback
• Communicate scientific findings clearly and document technical approaches in writing
• Collaborate across functions to drive business growth and scientific advancement
