Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking an experienced Outside Plant Engineer to support fiber network design, documentation and engineering for a long-term, fully remote opportunity. The role requires strong OSP and fiber design expertise, plus experience with network inventory systems and permitting processes.

This contract position is based out of Basking Ridge, NJ with 100% remote work and a duration of about 30 months. The candidate will work independently, coordinate with internal stakeholders, and

Qualifications

• Experience in Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering and fiber network design.
• Background in telecommunications, data networking, or wireless.
• Advanced working knowledge of TIRKS.
• Experience using engineering systems, databases, and network inventory platforms.
• Understanding of fiber infrastructure and local engineering practices.
• Experience with permitting, right-of-way, and property rights processes.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio, ArcGIS/ESRI, 3GIS, and Google Earth.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and support fiber plant and OSP infrastructure projects.
• Develop and maintain network records and engineering documents.
• Use engineering systems to manage inventory and design data.
• Review and update OSP records for accuracy.
• Create practical, buildable network designs using local practices.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve design issues.
• Incorporate ROW, permitting, and property rights considerations.
• Support network transformation and decommissioning initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with standards and company policies.
