Job summary

The Public Health Institute (PHI) seeks an experienced interviewer to conduct interviews with family members of women who died during pregnancy or within a year post-pregnancy. The role provides contextual insights beyond medical records and requires confidentiality and trauma-informed communication throughout data collection.

This part-time position offers flexible evenings/weekends, remote work options within 75 miles of Capitola, and the potential for travel to CDC meetings or project offices

Qualifications

• 8 years of experience in social work, interviewing, trauma-informed communications, or related field.
• 4 years of documented experience as a Social Worker, Qualitative Researcher or Applied Epidemiologist in recent years.
• Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related field; or substitute with four additional years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Training with PHI and CDC staff on interviewing protocols and confidentiality.
• Interview preparation by reviewing case materials and coordinating with staff.
• Outreach to locate appropriate interview participants and schedule interviews.
• Conduct semi-structured interviews, obtain consent, and use guidance to explore health history and social factors.
• Summarize interview findings and integrate into the case narrative with others.
• Attend monthly committee meetings and respond to questions about family input.
• Maintain ongoing communication with PHI staff about data collection obstacles.
• Perform other essential duties as assigned.
