Job summary

Public Health Institute seeks an experienced interviewer to engage family members of women who died during pregnancy or within a year post-pregnancy. The role collects contextual information to complement medical records, with a strong emphasis on confidentiality and trauma-informed interviewing.

Flexible 20 hours per week, remote options encouraged within 75 miles of Capitola, CA, and some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 8 years of experience in social work, interviewing, trauma-informed communications, public health, healthcare, or related field.
• 4 years of documented experience within the past 4 years as Social Worker, Qualitative Researcher or Applied Epidemiologist, or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related field; or substitute with four additional years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Training PHI and CDC staff on interviewing protocols and confidentiality.
• Complete required human subjects research training.
• Outreach to locate interview participants and review case materials for context.
• Conduct semi-structured interviews by phone or Zoom, lasting 30–90 minutes.
• Summarize interviews into written narratives and integrate with case summaries.
• Attend monthly committee meetings and assist PHI staff as needed.
• Maintain ongoing communication and report obstacles to PHI.
