Job summary

SAIC seeks a Systems Engineer to support NRC in Rockville, MD, focusing on enterprise monitoring across the IT stack. You will tune alerts, validate coverage, and collaborate with change control boards to ensure accurate configuration of monitoring tools.

You will build dashboards and reports, drive continuous improvement, and help ensure rapid, proactive issue detection and response in a regulated federal environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; 5+ years of relevant experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of enterprise monitoring platforms (e.g., WhatsUp Gold, OpManager, Splunk, Cisco Catalyst Center, or similar).
• Experience with alert tuning, event correlation, automated service checks, and monitoring configuration management.
• Familiarity with change management processes and ITIL-aligned operational practices.
• Ability to create dashboards/diagrams/visualizations communicating system health and performance.
• Experience supporting monitoring integrations via APIs, SNMP, syslog, or other data ingestion methods.

Responsibilities

• Monitor configuration lifecycle and verify coverage across systems and apps.
• Attend change control boards; reflect changes across monitoring tools.
• Automate monitoring configurations, alerts, and service checks.
• Tune thresholds and correlation rules for meaningful alerts.
• Review alerts to identify noise, gaps, or misconfigurations and improve monitoring.
• Maintain after-hours escalation paths and support procedures.
• Create dashboards, diagrams, and availability views for visibility.
• Support integrations between monitoring tools and enterprise apps.
