Job summary

GitLab is seeking an Engineering Manager for Gitaly to guide a deeply technical team focused on the Git data storage tier. You will lead senior engineers, drive performance, scalability, and reliability while upholding a culture of ownership and accountability.

You’ll mentor engineers, balance roadmap and infrastructure priorities, and communicate effectively across a fully distributed organization. This role is remote, with global eligibility.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams with direct reports and hiring.
• Management philosophy centered on ownership and accountability.
• Ability to guide specialized engineers through ambiguity and tough technical tradeoffs.
• Strong written communication and remote collaboration across distributed teams.
• Track record delivering under pressure on long-horizon technical projects.
• Hands-on background with version control, distributed systems, or low-level infra (Go).

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of senior and staff engineers on Gitaly and related infrastructure.
• Foster a culture of technical rigor, accountability, and ownership.
• Drive execution on complex, long-horizon work across performance and scalability.
• Balance roadmap delivery with GitLab product and infrastructure priorities.
• Mentor engineers and support career development and stretch opportunities.
• Develop strong written communication and asynchronous alignment across a distributed team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners relying on Gitaly expertise.
• Represent the team credibly in stakeholder conversations about direction and scaling.
