Job summary

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is seeking an Engineer, Engineering and Security Integration to support the BPS reliability initiatives across the ERO Enterprise. You will provide technical leadership in DER modeling, system studies, and risk mitigation while collaborating with industry stakeholders and cross-department teams.

The role focuses on transmission level studies, event analysis, and development of guidance to tackle grid transformation challenges.

Qualifications

• The successful candidate will have DER technology knowledge including IBRs such as wind, solar PV, battery energy storage, hybrid plants, HVDC, FACTS or synchronous DERs.
• Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing mitigating actions for reliability issues.
• Strong understanding of power system fundamentals: frequency control, balancing, ramping, voltage, stability, inverter controls, BPS operation.
• Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards related to modeling, operations, and protection.
• Knowledge of transmission planning, protection and control, grid operations.
• Awareness of emerging technologies and integration with security for inverter-based resources.
• Ability to lead stakeholder groups inclusively and communicate complex topics clearly.
• Excellent written and oral communication; ability to publish technical reports.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead technical activities for NERC industry stakeholder groups, especially DER-related working groups.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to mitigate risks from emerging technologies or changes to the distribution system for BPS reliability.
• Support ERO Enterprise initiatives focusing on risk mitigation for IBRs, DERs, and computational loads.
• Analyze system disturbances with Event Analysis teams; prepare disturbance reports and recommendations.
• Assess transmission level modeling and studies; provide industry recommendations.
• Lead or support simulations addressing BPS wide-area reliability in near and long term.
• Engage with DERs and industry forums to ensure reliability considerations are addressed proactively.
• Interact with manufacturers, labs, academia, and other stakeholders to promote safe, inclusive collaboration.
• Prepare engineering analyses, studies, and reports; develop guidelines supporting NERC initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
