Job summary

Fairwinds Technologies, LLC is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer with strong experience in Linux-based development on Xilinx UltraScale+ platforms using PetaLinux. You will collaborate with hardware engineers on PCB-based embedded systems to design, implement, and optimize low-level software for mission-critical communications and signal processing applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of embedded software development for Linux-based systems.
• Hands-on experience with Xilinx UltraScale+ platforms.
• Hands-on experience with PetaLinux (image creation, kernel config, rootfs).
• PCB-based embedded hardware bring-up with schematics/board constraints.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting (Bash/Python).

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded Linux software for Xilinx UltraScale+ (Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC) with PetaLinux (BSP creation, kernel configuration, rootfs customization, image generation).
• Support hardware bring-up and integration on custom PCB designs, including board validation and debugging.
• Implement and maintain device drivers and board support packages (GPIO, I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, DMA).
• Integrate FPGA logic with embedded software using AXI interfaces and Linux user-space access methods (UIO, mmap, sysfs).
• Build and optimize performance-critical embedded Linux applications (real-time data movement, streaming, latency tuning).
• Develop test utilities, diagnostics, and automation for lab/field validation.
• Collaborate with FPGA, DSP, RF, and hardware engineers for high-performance solutions.
• Author technical docs and SBIR deliverables.
