Job summary

Washington State Department of Ecology is hiring a TMDL Project Lead (Environmental Specialist 4) in the Water Quality Program, based in Central Washington with Union Gap duty station. The role focuses on developing and implementing water cleanup projects for the Yakima River Watershed and related initiatives within a flexible schedule and telework options.

You will lead technical studies, coordinate with Tribes and local governments, and advance ARP/STI projects to shorten timelines for water

Qualifications

• Environmental Assessment – assess conditions and data to identify pollution sources and support cleanup actions.
• Water Quality Planning & Regulation – develop water quality plans and apply regulations to improve water quality.
• Project Management – organize and manage complex environmental projects for timely results.
• Communication & Engagement – explain technical information and engage partners for shared understanding.
• Analytical Judgment – analyze complex information and make sound environmental decisions.
• Collaboration & Leadership – work with partners toward shared goals without formal authority.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with the watershed, its land uses and communities.
• Involve groups to conduct technical studies and write TMDLs to protect waters.
• Coordinate with Tribes, local governments and watershed groups during TMDL/ARP/STI projects.
• Monitor and report progress toward meeting water quality standards in cleanup plans.
• Represent Ecology at hearings and conferences regarding Water Cleanup Plans.
• Support non-point pollution actions and develop regional enforcement documents.
