Job summary

The Washington State Department of Ecology is hiring a Lead Water Quality Engineer (Environmental Engineer 5) in the Water Quality Program. The Southwest Region Office in Lacey, WA is the duty location, with telework options and in-office presence required.

You will lead planning, design, and construction of wastewater and reclaimed water systems, and oversee permits and compliance. You will mentor staff engineers, help manage grant programs, and serve as the main agency contact for regulated

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in environmental engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, design, and construction of wastewater and reclaimed water systems.
• Provide regulatory oversight of operations at wastewater facilities and manage permit issuance.
• Manage financial assistance programs for clean water infrastructure projects.
• Mentor staff-level engineers and assist with training and design reviews.
• Draft permit conditions and oversee compliance with water quality standards.
• Conduct facility inspections and provide regulatory guidance to communities and industries.
• Improve unit processes and assist stakeholders in understanding permits.
