Job summary

The Department of Transportation in New York City seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to perform civil engineering tasks, including design work for traffic signals and street lighting, and coordination with consultants on new or modified installations.

Responsibilities include preparing designs in AutoCAD, evaluating contract documents, and developing quantity estimates while ensuring compliance with City standards and applicable codes. Some remote work may be available under the program.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering with one year of full-time civil engineering experience; or
• Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering technology with three years of experience; or
• Baccalaureate degree plus master’s degree in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD and related tools.
• Evaluate contract documents, specifications and technical drawings.
• Develop estimates of quantities for projects.
• Coordinate with design consultants and review plans for signals and street lighting installations.
