Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to perform critical civil engineering duties, including design work with AutoCAD, field surveys, and coordination with consultants on traffic signals and street lighting projects.

The position requires filing for the upcoming civil service exam #7006 and proof of filing. Some assignments may permit remote work up to two days weekly under the City-DC37 program.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering technology and three years of fulltime satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD.
• Evaluate contract documents, specifications, working drawings and other technical materials.
• Develop estimates of quantities.
• Conduct field visits and assist with lighting survey projects.
• Coordinate with design consultants and review submitted plans for new or modified intersections and street lighting installations.
• Review shop drawings and catalogue cuts for construction; maintain records of drawings, plans and surveys.
