Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation seeks an Assistant Electrical Engineer to perform responsible electrical engineering tasks. You will conduct field surveys, prepare AutoCAD designs, and review contract drawings to ensure compliance with IESNA, NEC, and city standards.

The role involves coordinating with design consultants, evaluating shop drawings, and maintaining records of drawings, maps, surveys, and inspection data. A valid NY driver’s license may be preferred for assignments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 1 year of full-time electrical engineering experience, or
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a master's degree (master's can substitute for 1 year of experience).
• Master's degree cannot replace more than 1 year of experience; other engineering fields are not acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Perform research, investigations, studies related to department engineering functions.
• Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD; evaluate contract documents, specs, and estimates.
• Conduct field visits and lighting survey projects; ensure compliance with city standards, IESNA, and NEC/NESC/AASHTO/FHWA.
