Job summary
Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division is seeking an Automation Engineer to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automated solutions for complex power systems, working both independently and with cross-functional teams from concept through commissioning.
You will identify retrofit opportunities, program PLC and HMI applications, read schematics, collaborate with CAD, and train field personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Experience with automation and controls including PLCs and HMIs.
- Ability to read electrical schematics/blueprints.
Responsibilities
- Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope and support proposals with Dealer and Factory teams.
- Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling control systems.
- Convert legacy PLC programs and validate performance; develop PLC and HMI applications.
- Collaborate with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings; provide field support as needed.
- Train technicians and customers on maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation.
