Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to develop electrical designs for renewable energy projects, including AC/DC systems and grid interconnection. You’ll create detailed drawings, perform power system studies, and specify equipment like inverters and transformers.

The role requires a BEng in Electrical Engineering with 3–5 years of renewable energy design experience, proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and Revit MEP, and the ability to work remotely in a collaborative

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 3–5 years of experience in electrical design focused on renewable energy projects.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software and power system analysis tools.
• Knowledge of SA electrical regulations and standards is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• ECSA registration is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs for renewable energy projects including AC/DC systems and grid interconnection.
• Prepare detailed drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring layouts using CAD software.
• Perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit, grounding) for projects.
• Specify equipment such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection relays.
• Ensure designs comply with IEC, IEEE, SANS and local grid codes.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers and external stakeholders.
• Conduct design reviews and support procurement and construction phases.
• Troubleshoot design issues and propose practical solutions.
• Stay updated on technologies and best practices in renewable energy electrical design.
