Job summary

Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division seeks an Automation and Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for power systems from concept through commissioning.

Role involves retrofit and new-system projects, collaboration with dealers, factories, and field teams, and travel up to 35–50% with DoD SkillBridge eligibility.

Qualifications

• Degree required: BSEE or BSEET preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with automation and controls, PLC, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using templates.
• Collaborate with CAD to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Conduct technical risk assessments and support field performance of projects.
• Provide technical support to AES Sales and Product Support Center teams, including escalation support.
• Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses promptly.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
