Job summary
Caterpillar Inc. seeks an Electric Power Automation Engineer to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems.
You will deliver automation solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with teams to drive retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning. Candidates should have PLC/HMI experience, read electrical schematics, knowledge of power systems, and ready collaboration with cross-functional teams; DoD SkillBridge may apply, travel up to
Qualifications
- BSEE or BSEET preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years with degree or 4 years without degree.
- Experience with automation and controls including PLC/SCADA.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
Responsibilities
- Identify retrofit opportunities; define scope and support proposals.
- Design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator control systems.
- Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
- Develop PLC and HMI apps using standard templates.
- Collaborate with CAD to produce wiring/assembly drawings.
- Provide technical risk assessment and field support.
- Support AES Sales and Product Support Center teams with escalation.
- Submit project docs and expenses promptly.
- Train technicians, customers, and internal teams on operation and troubleshooting.
