Job summary

OPB in Oregon seeks an experienced editor to lead regional coverage outside the Willamette Valley. This player/coach role combines editing with reporting, guiding a team of reporters in Bend, La Grande, Pendleton and the Oregon Coast.

The Regional Team Lead will plan coverage with the Regional Managing Editor, assign enterprise and breaking news, and oversee multimedia journalism for digital, audio and video audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional journalism experience.
• 1 year supervisory experience in leading teams.
• Experience editing hard news topics (government, politics, climate, etc.).
• Ability to meet daily deadlines and manage time well.
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative approach.
• Ability to work remotely with editors across the state.
• Bilingual in English and another language preferred.

Responsibilities

• Edit a team of reporters covering Oregon outside the Willamette Valley.
• Develop beats and sources to strengthen coverage.
• Guide stories from idea generation to final product.
• Edit stories for radio and digital platforms, including web features.
• Monitor competition and lead iterative reporting when news breaks.
• Represent OPB at community events and public conversations.
• Coordinate with Portland editors when needed.
