Job summary

Fidus is a global high-tech design firm with offices in Ottawa, Kitchener-Waterloo and San Jose. The DSP Designer develops and delivers complex signal processing algorithms for clients, from concept through simulation, fixed-point implementation, and hardware bring-up, collaborating with FPGA/hardware teams.

You’ll work across communications, radar/sensing, industrial, medical and semiconductor engagements, translating DSP concepts into feasible hardware architectures and documenting results for

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
• Strong foundation in signals and systems (Fourier/Z-transform, digital filter design).
• Experience with estimation/detection theory or adaptive filtering (LMS/RLS).
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python for algorithm design.

Responsibilities

• Develop and simulate DSP algorithms (equalization, filtering, estimation, detection) in MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python.
• Perform quantization/bit-width analysis and create bit-true fixed-point models for HDL implementation.
• Translate algorithms into feasible hardware architectures with pipelining and resource budgeting.
• Support HDL verification through golden-model vectors and co-simulation.
• Document design decisions, trade-offs and validation results for clients and internal teams.
