Job summary

Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineer & Designer who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. You will independently develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems and review client-provided work to ensure high-quality results.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of relevant experience, a Bachelor's in an engineering field, and proficiency with NESC. Travel may be required, and a valid U.S. driver's license is expected.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred; experienced candidates may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Experience with distribution projects from kickoff through design, including customer interaction and process documentation.
• Experience with utility reliability projects.
• Proficiency with the NESC.
• Must be able to use a personal vehicle; travel may be anticipated and reimbursed at IRS rates.
• Willingness to perform field and office work; occasional outdoor work; customer-site data collection.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers.
• Review work provided by Client and assess scope requirements.
• Perform engineering calculations: wood pole loading, guying, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop and flicker.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure standards are met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments; develop work permits, easements, ROW applications.
