Job summary

Cengage is seeking a Director of Web Experience Design (Remote) to set the vision and strategy for our web ecosystem, leading a design team to deliver modern, conversion‑driven experiences that connect customers with learning products.

You will partner with product, marketing, analytics, and engineering to run experiments, improve ecommerce and conversion moments, and guide design across the customer journey, while mentoring talent and staying ahead of AI-enabled design trends.

Qualifications

• Senior Web Experience Design role with 3+ years of people management experience.
• Strong experience with ecommerce, growth, conversion optimization, or other transactional digital experiences.
• Deep expertise in UX and UI design principles, human-centered design methodologies, interaction/visual design, IA, accessibility, and responsive design.
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, ability to influence senior leaders, and connect design decisions to outcomes.
• Portfolio is required to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision for Cengage’s web experience and establish a clear UX/UI strategy for discovery, evaluation, purchase, and engagement.
• Partner with Product, Marketing, Analytics, and Engineering to prototype, test (A/B/multivariant), and iterate ideas.
• Advance ecommerce and conversion experiences to improve key moments across the funnel.
• Design across the full customer journey from acquisition to ongoing engagement.
• Use data and qualitative insights to identify opportunities and prioritize work.
• Build a culture of continuous optimization and teach teams to measure and learn.
• Stay ahead of evolving web practices, AI-enabled experiences, personalization, and accessibility.
• Develop outstanding talent by coaching designers and cultivating leadership.
