Job summary

Charter Impact is seeking a Director of Client Finance to oversee service delivery and act as an outsourced CFO for a portfolio of clients. You will lead finance, accounting, and compliance reporting with a strong emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and client collaboration, while mentoring staff across teams.

This remote-first role offers travel up to 25% and requires a strategic partner who can communicate financial information to leadership and external stakeholders with confidence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
• Master's degree in Finance or Accounting is highly desired.
• 7 years of experience, some of which includes staff oversight.
• Experience in professional service firms, such as a CPA firm, is a plus.
• Experience in charter school finance and operations is a plus.
• Non-profit accounting experience is a plus.
• Certified Public Accountant is highly desired but not required.
• Ability to maintain a close and collaborative team environment with clients and staff.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Self-starter with ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Knowledge of Sage Intacct or similar non-profit accounting systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial and accounting services and provide direction to Charter Impact Teams in financial statement prep, accounts payable/receivable, grant tracking and reporting, and ad hoc reporting.
• Review all financial statements prepared by Accounting Teams for GAAP compliance.
• Prepare annual budgets and monthly forecasts with insights into clients’ financial condition.
• Oversee annual financial and governmental audits including work papers and liaising with auditors.
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all compliance reporting.
• Serve as a fiscal liaison to Authorizers, Counties, State and Federal Agencies.
• Provide training to client staff on internal controls.
• Collaborate with organizational leaders to communicate financial information clearly.
• Exceed client expectations with quality and accuracy of information.
• Develop and maintain long-term client leadership relationships.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of charter school funding and related regulations.
• Mentor staff for professional growth within Charter Impact Teams.
