What you'll be doing:

The MyHealtheVet (MHV) Platform, APIs, Security and Access Database Administrator (DBA) is a mission-critical role responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and integrity of the databases that power the MHV platform and its associated APIs. This role plays a central part in enabling veterans’ access to health information by maintaining highly reliable, scalable, and compliant database environments. A primary focus of the position is providing remote DBA support for VA Medical Center migrations from VistA to Oracle Health, ensuring database readiness, successful facility cutovers, and uninterrupted service. The DBA serves as the database subject matter expert, working closely with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams to implement best practices in automation, performance optimization, disaster recovery, and federal security compliance. This role emphasizes proactive operations, automation of routine tasks, and clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders to support 24/7 platform availability and evolving modernization initiatives.

What you’ll bring:
  • 3+ years of experience working with databases in a backend or infrastructure role
  • Solid SQL Scripting for automation and operations (Python preferred)
  • Oracle database administration experience (including support for Oracle Health environments)
  • Database administration across production, staging, and development environments
  • Database automation using Ansible and/or Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
  • Database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing
  • Backup, restore, and disaster recovery planning and execution
  • Database monitoring, capacity planning, and proactive health management
  • Security implementation including encryption (at rest and in transit) and auditing
  • Access control management (RBAC, least-privilege access models)
  • Compliance with federal security frameworks (FISMA, NIST, VA STIGs)
  • Cross-functional collaboration with DevOps, application, and security teams
Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience with Oracle, InterSystems IRIS / HealthShare, or MUMPS
  • Familiarity with DevOps tooling: Git, Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of data security standards and PHI/PII handling
Requirements:
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to work domestically
  • Must be able to attain public trust (Tier 4) security clearance
