Job summary

GFT is seeking a Cost Engineer / Estimator to support major electric utility transmission and substation projects. The role can be remote with periodic travel to client offices and project sites, collaborating with Substation Estimators, Project Managers, Engineers, and Construction Managers to develop cost estimates and forecast financials.

This position emphasizes construction cost development, procurement support, and the maintenance of cost databases, with a focus on accuracy and adherence

Qualifications

• Minimum degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or related field preferred.
• 3–7 years of estimating, cost engineering, project controls, or construction experience.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs and cost development.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced Excel and familiarity with reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed construction estimates.
• Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specs.
• Compile labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing.
• Develop estimate worksheets, bid summaries, and documentation.
• Maintain estimating templates and cost databases.
• Support estimate reviews and reconciliation.
• Assist with bid evaluations and procurement support.
• Track project budgets, cash flow, and cost reporting.
• Support change management processes and cost impacts.
• Collaborate with project controls and management teams.
