Job summary

GFT is seeking a highly qualified Senior Substation Estimator/Cost Engineer to support major electric utility transmission and substation projects. This role can be remote with periodic travel to client offices and project sites, serving as the lead estimating resource within delivery teams.

Responsibilities include developing project cost estimates, evaluating proposals, supporting procurement, reviewing change orders, and forecasting costs throughout the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, business or related field.
• 10+ years construction estimating experience with focus on utility transmission/substation projects.
• Experience preparing estimates for projects over $10 million.
• Strong understanding of utility construction contracting practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed construction cost estimates for transmission and substation projects.
• Prepare engineer’s estimates using drawings, specs and field data; perform quantity takeoffs.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, escalation and contingency costs.
• Review change orders and support negotiations; provide cost forecasting and status reporting.
• Collaborate with project teams on cost-control strategies and procurement packages.
