Job summary

National Public Radio is seeking a 2L or 3L law student for a for-credit or stipend-eligible externship in the Office of the General Counsel (Copyright). The role emphasizes copyright law, fair use, and audio licensing, offering practical exposure to rights management and licensing negotiations.

Externs work full-time for summer and may obtain course credit. NPRRemote-Permitted; option to work remotely within the U.S., with on-site DC availability; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Must be a current student in an accredited law degree program.
• Must have taken a course in copyright law or equivalent and be well-versed in the principles of fair use.
• Prior exposure to licensing issues is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluating copyright issues in audio content (and occasional video content).
• Researching copyright issues.
• Drafting and organizing permissions agreements and assessing licensing agreements.
• Assisting with Rights Management issues.
