Job summary

NPR is seeking a law student extern for the Office of the General Counsel (Copyright) Externship. This remote-permitted position may be on-site in Washington, DC, or remote within the U.S. for credit or stipend.

Dates: May–August 2027; full-time for summer, part-time during school terms. Legal work includes copyright, fair use, and licensing issues. Applicants should be 2L or 3L, with coursework in copyright law, and an interest in rights management and audio licensing.

Qualifications

• Must be a current student in an accredited law degree program.
• Must have taken a course in copyright law or equivalent and be well-versed in the principles of fair use.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior counsel with copyright, fair use, and audio licensing tasks.
• Research copyright issues and draft/organize permissions agreements.
• Assist with Rights Management issues and licensing negotiations.
