Data for Progress is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to lead internal operations, people systems, and the administrative infrastructure that supports our nonprofit research work. You will partner with the Executive Director and leadership to build clarity, accountability, and scalable processes across finance, HR, contracts, and vendor management.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of senior leadership in nonprofit operations or related areas.
• Experience building internal systems and processes for mission-driven work.
• Cross-functional leadership across people, budgeting, vendor management and payroll.
• Strong judgment on personnel matters and discretion.
• Excellent project management and communication skills.
• Experience in labor relations or unionized environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead senior internal operations and organizational systems.
• Improve day-to-day operations and processes.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement fixes.
• Coordinate planning and leadership follow-through.
• Shape structure and management practices as the organization grows.
• Oversee hiring, onboarding, records, and personnel processes.
• Lead performance reviews and planning processes.
• Manage contracts, payroll, compliance, and vendors.
