Job summary

Candid is seeking a Controller & Director of Accounting to lead a six-person accounting team and oversee GAAP financial reporting for a $37M operating budget. The role supports the COFO and drives improvements in close cycles, controls, and automation for a nonprofit with diverse revenue streams.

The role reports to the COFO, offers a 35-hour work week, and is remote with occasional NYC-area travel for meetings. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• BS in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• 12 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Minimum 5 years supervising/managing staff in an accounting or finance environment.
• Working knowledge of SaaS and subscription accounting, ASC 606 revenue recognition for multi-element arrangements, deferred revenue and related costs.
• Strong nonprofit accounting principles knowledge and experience with financial controls; Form 990 is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting team operations (AP, AR, GL, payroll).
• Manage month-end and year-end close; ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
• Own revenue recognition across revenue streams (subscriptions, grants, contributions).
• Oversee grant/contract accounting and net asset tracking; ensure compliance with terms.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (BS, IS, cash flow).
• Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory requirements.
