Job summary

American Psychological Association seeks an experienced Manager, Content Development & Licensing to lead content collection, licensing, and evaluation for APA's discovery solutions. The role oversees a remote team and guides acquisitions of journals, books, and other content in line with industry standards.

The position requires extensive experience in publishing, licensing, and budgets, with a focus on strategic content partnerships and policy development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred.
  • Psychology or related social science background preferred, other fields eligible.
  • Minimum 5 years of staff supervision in scholarly/professional publishing or editorial environment.
  • 3–5 years in contract negotiation for content licensing (scholarly publishing).
  • Experience with copyright and/or Creative Commons licenses.
  • Experience managing complex, deadline-driven programs; budgeting; and public speaking.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Content Development staff and oversees personnel activities.
  • Develops best practices for identifying content for psychology databases and collaborates with the Director, Content Management.
  • Builds relationships with publishers to include content in databases; handles sensitive communications with publishers/editors.
  • Negotiates coverage and license agreements and electronic feed processes with publishers.
  • Coordinates with APA IT on e-feed arrangements and interconnections between publishers and Content Development staff.
  • Develops and enforces coverage policies for journals and books across databases.
  • Develops and manages budgets for content development staff and resources.
  • 5–10% domestic and international travel is expected.
  • Other duties as assigned.
