Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Construction Cost Estimator who will analyze and approve estimates to ensure alignment with specifications, materials costs, and property standards. This role supports the Construction team and is 100% remote within the US, with a preference for Eastern Time Zone.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 1–2 years in construction, and strong Excel skills, plus a mindset focused on accuracy, process improvement, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education in a related discipline.
• Demonstrated strong proficiency in MS Excel.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience in the building and construction field.
• Knowledge of construction practices and labor costs in construction, plus a good knowledge of the uses and costs of materials.
• Ability to multitask, which requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and quality.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have a process improvement-oriented mindset.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a professional manner.
• A self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.
• A curiosity and desire to solve problems.
• Proficient in construction-related software and strong knowledge of Excel.
• Results-oriented individual with the ability to adapt to a changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Apply a practical knowledge of construction techniques and specifications to the analysis of existing housing or housing proposed for construction.
• Review and approve contractor estimates.
• Track and record job cost variances.
• Gather photo documentation for all estimates.
• Load documentation into various owner portals for approval.
• Value engineer estimates.
• Coach and educate estimators regarding client requirements.
• Assist on other projects for construction/acquisition as assigned by the company.
