Job description

Hui Huliau is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and cost estimation. You will play a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates, ensuring project profitability, and contributing to successful project bidding.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Analyze project plans, specifications, and documents to prepare accurate cost estimates.
  2. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to gather necessary project details.
  3. Calculate material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs for construction projects.
  4. Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
  5. Prepare and present detailed cost analysis and bid proposals.
  6. Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans for cost overruns.
  7. Stay up to date on market trends, material costs, and industry standards.
  8. Assist in value engineering to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
  9. Maintain and update cost databases for materials, labor, and equipment.
  10. Coordinate with project managers to monitor budgets and ensure cost control during execution.

Education & Skills Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  2. Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or in a similar role.
  3. Strong knowledge of construction materials, processes, and industry standards.
  4. Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, RSMeans, or similar tools).
  5. Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
  6. Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
  7. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  8. Familiarity with local building codes and regulations.

Preferred Skills

  1. Experience in specific industries, e.g., residential, commercial, federal construction projects.
  2. Certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent are a plus.
  3. Advanced knowledge of scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
  4. Familiarity with office computers and equipment, telephones, radios, Microsoft Office suite of tools, web-based applications such as Procore, electronic spreadsheets and database analysis, outputs, and reporting, virtual data sharing platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, etc.) and other forms of remote work-sharing tools.
  5. Must be able to sit, stand, and work at a computer for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 25lbs on occasion, stretching, climbing stairs, and walking.
