A J.D. and U.S.

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
• Active law license in any U.S. state in good standing.
• 1+ years of litigation experience preferred, but clerkship experience considered.
• Endorses and is motivated by CAL’s mission.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized with an ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work hard and produce superior work.
• Creative and quick thinking.
• Federal judicial clerkship experience preferred but not required.
• Experience litigating First Amendment and constitutional cases preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Intake of new potential cases
• Manage relationships and communication with clients
• Professionally handle confidential information
• Research novel areas of law
• Develop legal strategies that advance clients’ interests
• Engage in all aspects of discovery, from written discovery requests to depositions
• Draft, edit, and review litigation documents, including trial court motions and appeals
• Oral argument on motions and appeals
• Draft amicus briefs and coordinate filing
