Job summary

Selective Insurance is seeking a Complex Claims Specialist Public Entity Professional Liability for a remote position. You will manage complex claims for public entities and school boards from inception to conclusion, delivering superior service to policyholders and agents.

The ideal candidate has extensive casualty claims experience, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and can work independently. Base pay is USD 124,000–160,000 per year, with a comprehensive rewards package.

Qualifications

• Experience handling Public Entity Professional Liability, Police Professional Liability, and Employment Practices Liability claims required.
• Ability to properly address exposure and adjust files and expenses.
• Ability to analyze claims presented, legal complaints, litigation reports and trend analysis to identify issues.
• Experience in complex coverage analysis and significant large loss evaluations.
• Superior communication, strategic thinking and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Moderate proficiency with standard business‑related software (including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Sufficient keyboarding proficiency to enter data accurately and efficiently.
• Must have valid state‑issued driver's license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and resolve coverage issues for Public Entities, Law Enforcement Agencies and School Boards.
• Investigate claims via telephone, written correspondence, and/or personal contact.
• Present claims and trends to leadership, discussing coverage, liability and exposure.
• Analyze information to evaluate assigned claims and exposure.
• Negotiate and resolve claims within delegated authority.
• Assess coverage and prepare coverage letters explaining positions.
• Report cases going to trial and attend trial portions when warranted.
• Ensure proper referrals and timely updates to reinsurers.
• Plan, review and conduct claims reviews and settlement conferences; mediate disputes.
• Travel 0–10% with a valid driver's license.
